How to Increase Carry Weight / Capacity in Valheim
Posted by Dals | 27 August 2026
For a story-based survival game like Valheim, trips adventuring beyond your home base can be tedious as you quickly fill up on inventory space or become encumbered by carrying too much.
To save yourself some hassle, there are some methods listed below on some of your options for increasing your carrying capacity! Be aware that some options may include spoilers for certain parts of the map or the game if you're looking for a more pure experience.
Mead of Troll Endurance

The Mead of Troll Endurance is a consumable mead-type item in the game which grants +250.0 carry weight for 5 minutes when drank. This is one of the most reliable consumable ways to boost your carry capacity if you know you're going to be taking on a lot of items in your inventory.
To craft this, you must insert the following ingredients into a Mead Ketill:
2 Trollfish
10 Honey
1 Powdered Dragon Eggshell
After fermenting the mead in the Mead Ketill for 2 in-game days, you will receive 6 Mead of Troll Endurance cups.
Megingjord
Megingjord, in terms of mythology, is historically known as the belt of the Thunder God Thor. In Valheim, however, it's for sale from a merchant, and can be worn to increase your carry weight capacity by 150.0 units.

The merchant you're looking for is named Haldor, though finding him can be tricky. There's no guaranteed location for the merchant thanks to the procedurally generated worlds in the game, but he will be located in the Black Forest region/biome.
When you pass nearby him, you'll see a special indicator on the map (shaped like a money bag), so you don't need to worry about being too thorough in order to spot him!
Purchasing the Megingjord belt off of Haldor will cost you 950 coins. Afterwards, you can equip the belt anytime you want your bonus 150 carry capacity.
Boss Buffs
This method delves into spoilers for the map and world of Valheim, for those looking to avoid them.
However, the last of your main options to increase your carry capacity / carry weight in Valheim is using the buff gained by killing the seventh boss in the game, named Moder.

This boss is located in the Mountain biome, and will drop the Fader Trophy item when killed.
If you return this trophy to the rightful stone around the Sacrifical Stones on the map, you will gain Moder's Forsaken Power. This power includes the following effects for 5 minutes, and can be activated every 20 minutes:
+ 300.0 Carry Weight
+10% Increased Movement Speed
Frost Resistance
Tailwind While Sailing
