Everything New in Valheim 1.0: Update Overview
Posted by Dals | 10 September 2026
The team at Iron Gate Studios has spent years building up Valheim to the point where they feel that the game is complete. That time is finally upon us as Valheim graduates from Early Access in its full 1.0 title update, the Deep North.
This is a massive, long-awaited update, and reflects the complete vision the developers hoped for with the game. We've broken down the essential changes you need to know below that you can expect out of the game following the update!
New Biome: The Deep North
Arguably the most notable addition to the game in this update is the new Deep North biome! This is touted as an incredibly large snowy region with all new creatures, dungeons, bosses, and materials to discover.

Located in the northern parts of the world, you'll find a snowy region with ruins of a civilization that couldn't survive the harsh environment.

New Mechanics & Systems
Alongside the addition of the snowy Deep North region comes some added mechanics that tie directly into the biome. There are also some other more far-reaching mechanics/systems added which will affect your game even outside of the Deep North!

Many new achievements have been added and can be unlocked as you progress in the world.
Explore the other outer regions of the world to find varied/alternate versions of some of the familiar biomes already in the game.
Frozen waters can be found around the Deep North which pose the threat of falling through unless traversed carefully.
You can now traverse the map using a grappling hook to reach places you couldn't before!
