Upgrades to Budgets
Posted by Chris | 23 January 2026
Right now, we offer Budget and Performance plans. Budget plans exist to be cheaper by running on older, slower CPUs with fewer threads. That made sense historically - but it no longer does.
Back in September, we made a significant price reduction across the board. Because of that change, Performance plans are now only $1/month more than Budget plans. At the same time, older hardware has become harder to source and more expensive to get our hands on.
The result is simple:
Budget plans no longer make sense for customers or for us.
Because of that, we’re beginning a gradual phase-out of the Budget lineup.
Pricing impact (short answer: none)
To put numbers on it:
Budget 8 GB: $6.99
Performance 8 GB: $7.99
With pricing this close, new Budget orders will be discontinued and replaced with Performance equivalents going forward.
Existing customers will not see a price increase.
What happens to existing Budget servers?
You get a free upgrade.
All Budget servers will be migrated onto Performance hardware, which means:
Up to Ryzen 9950X CPUs
Faster NVMe storage
Faster RAM
Same server. Same data. Same price. Better hardware
When will this happen?
We can’t give exact dates yet. There are thousands of Budget servers to move, and we want to do this carefully and safely.
You’ll be able to track when your node is scheduled for migration via our status page.
Downtime & impact
For most users, this will be barely noticeable:
Migrations are done off-peak
Typical downtime is under 10 minutes
Your server will come back exactly as it was
If you use a custom domain or proxy, your server IP will change. We’ll give advance notice on the status page so you have time to update anything needed.
As always, if you have questions, our team (and I) are around.
