Hardware Upgrades Incoming

Posted by Chris | 25 November 2024

Our Biggest Upgrade Yet

At Kinetic, offering modern, powerful hardware has always been a priority. When we launched in 2020, the standard in hosting was outdated Intel Xeon CPUs. We weren’t satisfied with this, as it led to slow and laggy servers. From the start, we committed to providing updated Intel CPUs to ensure everyone could enjoy smooth, lag-free servers. This decision paid off—the Xeon E-2288G CPUs we’ve used for our Performance line have consistently delivered excellent results, handling even the most demanding games and modpacks.

However, we’re always looking ahead. To ensure our servers remain fast and responsive, we’re excited to announce a major hardware upgrade across our entire Performance, Budget, and Impact lines.

All these upgrades come without a price increase on any plans

Performance Package Upgrades

What’s changing?

All new nodes will feature Ryzen CPUs, delivering a significant performance improvement to all Performance plans. The exact Ryzen CPU offered will differ by location. While we’d love to offer identical hardware everywhere, it’s not always possible. Our performance plans will now offer the same hardware as our current Impact servers (Impact servers are also getting an upgrade. See the Impact section)

These loactions will be upgraded to a Ryzen 7950X CPU:

East Coast US - Washington D.C.

East Coast US - Florida

Central US - Texas

West Coast US - San Francisco

Luxembourg - Luxembourg

Netherlands - Amsterdam

These locations will be upgraded to a Ryzen 5800X or Ryzen 5900X:

England - London

These locations will be upgraded to Ryzen 5800X or better (specific model TBD):

France - Strasborg

Austrlia - Sydney

Singapore - Singapore

We’re also upgrading to NVMe SSD storage, offering significantly faster save times and chunk loading in games like Minecraft. Whether it’s the Ryzen 7 5800X or the higher-end Ryzen 7950X, your server will benefit from these changes.

Whats The Stats?

To show the improvement, here’s a comparison between the Intel E-2288G and Ryzen 7950X CPUs, which most locations are upgrading to:

AMD Ryzen 7950X:

  • Cores and Threads: 16 cores, 32 threads

  • Base Clock: 4.5 GHz

  • Boost Clock: Up to 5.7 GHz

  • PassMark CPU Multithread Rating: 62,706 (Higher Number Better)

  • PassMark CPU Single Thread Rating: 4,276 (Higher Number Better)

Intel Xeon E-2288G:

  • Cores and Threads: 8 cores, 16 threads

  • Base Clock: 3.7 GHz

  • Boost Clock: Up to 5.0 GHz

  • PassMark CPU Multithread Rating: 17,444 (Higher Number Better)

  • PassMark CPU Single Thread Rating: 2,905 (Higher Number Better)

This means huge performance improvements for all our games. And remember, it’s not just CPUs being upgraded. All systems will now feature NVMe SSDs, and Ryzen 7950X systems will include DDR5 memory.

Budget Package Upgrades

The current servers used for our Performance line will be repurposed for our Budget line. We know these CPUs are still highly capable and more than sufficient for running larger worlds and modpacks.

Alongside this change, we’re increasing the default number of threads included in our Budget packages to 5 threads, giving Budget users even more performance.

Whats The Stats?

Here’s a comparison between the Xeon E3-1230 v5 and Xeon E-2288G, as these are the most common CPUs in Budget servers:

Intel Xeon E3-1230 v5:

  • Cores and Threads: 4 cores, 8 threads

  • Base Clock: 3.4 GHz

  • Boost Clock: Up to 3.8 GHz

  • PassMark CPU Multithread Rating: 7,940 (Higher Number Better)

  • PassMark CPU Single Thread Rating: 2,195 (Higher Number Better)

Intel Xeon E-2288G:

  • Cores and Threads: 8 cores, 16 threads

  • Base Clock: 3.7 GHz

  • Boost Clock: Up to 5.0 GHz

  • PassMark CPU Multithread Rating: 17,444 (Higher Number Better)

  • PassMark CPU Single Thread Rating: 2,905 (Higher Number Better)

This allows budget servers to handle more mods and players.

Impact Package Upgrades

The Impact line has always been our top-tier offering. Earlier this year, we began upgrading these servers to the Ryzen 7950X, but with the Performance servers now reaching this spec, we’re upgrading the Impact line to the Ryzen 9950X.

The Ryzen 9950X, released in August 2024, features cutting-edge hardware, ensuring our Impact clients receive the best possible performance.

How Are You Doing This Without A Price Change?

The market has changed significantly since we launched in 2020. The cost of modern hardware has dropped, and with Kinetic Hosting now being a larger company, we’re able to cut costs thanks to our growing inventory of servers. It’s a bit like buying in bulk rather than individually—our scale allows us to save more, and we’re passing those savings directly onto you by upgrading our hardware.

How Will This Be Done?

With a large network of servers, this upgrade won’t happen overnight. However, the process is already underway. All new nodes we add to our inventory will meet the new specifications listed above.

For updates, check out our blog, Discord server, and status page. We’ll also post on our status twitter X (Twitter). Stay tuned!

Changes To Panel Updates

Changes To Panel Updates

We launched the Kinetic Panel back in 2022, and up until now, most features have been added through major updates. This approach sometimes meant that features were completed but had to wait for other features to be finalized before release. While this was unavoidable in some cases, such as with the significant UI reworks in Panel 3 and Panel 4, it has occasionally left features you could have been using just sitting there.

Panel 6.11 Update Change Log

Panel update 6.11 is live on all nodes. It comes with bug fixes, new server folders, and a new mobile text editor. The update was planned to be bigger and include Rust auto-wipe features, and more Minecraft start-up options, but this has been pushed to 6.12 that will drop next week.

Kinetic Hosting - Now With Unlimited Storage

When we rolled out our new packages, we set a smaller storage cap. Over time, we increased this from 30 GB to 60 GB, and as of today, we’re removing the hard limit entirely. Servers will still deploy with 60 GB by default, but you’ll be able to request a free storage upgrade at any time via a support ticket.

We are moving next door

Over the next 24–48 hours, all kinetichosting.net domains will become kinetichosting.com. When Kinetic Hosting first kicked off back in 2020, someone else already owned the .com, so we went with .net. Fast forward to now, we’ve finally secured the .com domain, and we’re moving everything over to it.

You Can Now Split More Than Ever

Starting today, we’re increasing our default split limit from 2 to 4. Our Split Tool has been one of our most well-received features. The ability to split a single plan into multiple servers was one of the features you highlighted most in our feedback forms.
