Halloween is just around the corner for 2026, which means it's the perfect time to play a spookier twist on Minecraft. We've compiled a list of the 5 most popular horror mods for you to try this year, whether you're playing alone or with friends on a server!
1: Apollyon

The Apollyon mod introduces an original creature to Minecraft: The Damned.
They will choose a specific player to watch, wait, and stalk, to find the perfect time to strike. They will not leave unless they are killed, or they take a life on their own. You may be haunted with custom abilities and cinematics, and will have to be extra careful at night. The Damned blend in with the pitch black of the night, most visible only when they bear their teeth and have found their target.

Apollyon is available for Minecraft versions 1.20.1, 1.19.4, and 1.19.2. You can download your preferred version from their Curseforge page here!
2: From The Fog

From the Fog has been a huge success as a horror mod, and is a staple of the season! Since being created 3 years ago, the mod is now nearing 18,000,000 total downloads, and is available for all the latest versions of the game. You'll be able to experience a more modern take on Herobrine in Minecraft, build for atmosphere and suspense as you get the sense of being watched in everything you do.

You can try out From the Fog from their official Curseforge page here! Or, try it as a datapack on your vanilla servers as well by using their Modrinth download.
3: The Man From The Fog

Fog is a recurring trend in some of the most popular horror mods for Minecraft, with another being The Man From The Fog! Although From the Fog may add Herobrine to Minecraft which will watch you as a looming threat, The Man From The Fog adds a totally original entity to the game.
You'll have to stay on guard constantly, as the entity will stalk you from afar. It will creep closer to you over time until you notice it and look at it. Don't let it get too close! The Man From The Fog will definitely keep you on your toes.

You can find the latest releases of The Man From The Fog on their Modrinth page or Curseforge page. The mod is available for Minecraft versions 1.18.2, 1.19.2, 1.19.4, and 1.20.1.
4: Siren Head: The Arrival

Many may be familiar with the infamous Siren Head already. Conceptualized by the horror artist Trevor Henderson, Siren head is an urban legend which lurks camouflaged in the woods. Don't be deceived by the large speakers/sirens on its head, though. Siren Head will lure you in with comfortable sounds, or mimic other human.
Now, Siren head can lurk within your Minecraft worlds as well! If Siren Head finds you, it will stop at nothing to hunt you down until you've gotten well out of earshot of its eerie sirens.

You can download Siren Head: The Arrival for yourself on Curseforge for Minecraft versions 1.19.2 or 1.20.1.
5: Sanity: Descent Into Madness

Looking for a break from creatures that stalk you? Then you can get a much more atmospheric horror experience thanks to the Sanity: Descent Into Madness mod!
This mod adds a sanity system to the game. As your sanity gets lower, you may begin to hallucinate, see the world differently, or even be attacks by creatures in your own mind. All sorts of actions can decrease your sanity in this mod, including getting hurt or being in the dark for too long. Unless you work to stay mindful by doing things like sleeping or staying fed, you may be on track to losing your mind.

If you're ready to give it a shot, consider checking out the Sanity: Descent Into Madness mod on their Modrinth page here! The mod is available for versions 1.16.x, 1.18.x, 1.19.2, 1.19.4, and 1.20.1.
