New Items in the upcoming 1.21.9 Minecraft Update, the Copper Age Update

Mojang are making Copper useful! Snapshots for the next update are coming out with long-awaited features, such as Copper Armour and Tools, Shelves, which are similar to vertical slabs, and the Copper Golem!

New Mob
Copper Golem
The Copper Golem, a rejected mob from the 2021 Mob Vote, has been added to the game. You can place one down by putting a Carved Pumpkin on top of a Copper Block. The copper golem will spawn with a copper chest, which can be used for automatically sorting items.
The Copper Golem will also interact with redstone, but a later guide will be created to go more in-depth with the capabilities of the Copper Golem.
New Blocks
All of the new copper blocks are crafted with Copper and will oxidise over time, unless waxed. Shelves are crafted using 6 stripped logs of the chosen variant.
Shelves
Shelves can be used to store up to 3 different items.
Having the hitbox of a vertical slab allows for it to be used for added depth in builds.
Copper Torches
A green variant to the Torch, crafted from a Copper Nugget, Coal and a Stick.
It functions identically to the Torch.
Copper Lanterns
Functionally identical to the Lantern.
Crafted using 8 Copper Nuggets and a Copper Torch.
Copper Chains
Functions like the existing Chain, which has now been renamed to “Iron Chain”
Crafted with 2 Copper Nuggets and a Copper Ingot
Copper Bars
Functions the same as the current Iron Bars block.
Crafted with 6 Copper Ingots.
Lightning Rod Oxidisation
The Lightning Rod now has oxidation stages and can be waxed.
Next Steps
If you want to try these features, you can now by opening the Minecraft Launcher and enabling snapshots in the “Installations” tab and running the “Latest Snapshot” version of Minecraft.
