Minecraft is preparing to debut its fourth official game dimension in 2027, which players can already jump into and get a preview of in Minecraft Dungeons II! Let's recap all we know about the upcoming dimension so far, and when you'll be able to start making it your own home in-game.
What is The Sift?
The Sift is the fourth dimension added to Minecraft, being the first one added in over 14 years since the addition of the end dimension previously.
Our previews of the coming dimension make it clear how much the team at Mojang has developed and grown over those years, showing a much more vibrant and complex dimension than what we've seen in the past.
Thankfully, we have some glimpses already into what The Sift has to offer!

Introducing a New Creature
First, we have this little creature! Officially named the Blub, these are small rabbit-like passive animals that you can find around The Sift that'll squeak and waddle around. To quote the official reveal at Minecraft LIVE in September 2026:
"Under a teal blue sky, tufts of soft orange grasses sit on a hilltop. A tiny rabbit-like blub walks casually through the grasses. Its glowing body jiggling slightly with each step."
More Sift-Specific Additions
Players have been able to glean a lot of the new blocks, items, and other additions to the game alongside The Sift thanks to the reveals we've seen so far! These don't necessarily represent official naming, but can be a great guide for some of the things we can come to expect.
New Sift Blocks
Sift Grass: A more pinkish version of grass exclusive to The Sift. Comes with a darker color variant.
Green Healthy Skulk: A seemingly healthy green skulk block.

Orange/Pink Healthy Skulk: Generating underneath Grassy Sift blocks, this may be an alternative to dirt.

Short Skulk Grass: Similar to the regular Sift grass blocks, short grass also comes in two color variants!
ㅤ

Tall Skulk Grass: A Sift-exclusive version of the 2-block tall grass normally found in the Overworld.

Short Green Skulk Grass: Trailers revealed a bit of short grass in the distance with a more green color, likely related to the Healthy Green Skulk blocks.
Willow* Leaves: Leaf blocks for the new weeping willow-like trees in The Sift.

The Sift also brings with it a totally new type of tree, presumably including an all-new suite of wood planks and other blocks.
We currently have previews of two different versions of these trees, as well! One larger variant, as well as a smaller/shorter tree. This seems to be similar behaviour to the regular Oak trees in the game.
How to Get to the Sift in Minecraft
While The Sift isn't officially out yet in the main version of Minecraft, we do have some news about how you'll be able to access it in 2027.
Minecraft Dungeons II reveals one key piece of information for this: Ancient Cities.

Although most of the information we have now is speculative, Minecraft Dungeons 2 has made the connection between The Sift and the Deep Dark clear. We've wondered for ages about the old, decrepit portal left over in the ruins of deep dark biomes, and it seems like The Sift is our answer.
Sculk has bled out of The Sift and into the overworld in the Deep Dark, and seems to have malformed into something a lot more evil. Current implications show that either the old portal, shaped like a Warden Head, may be used to transport you to The Sift. Though it's also entirely possible you'll use other means to build your own active portal to access it.
In either case, the connection between one of Minecraft's most mysterious biomes and a new vibrant dimension has a lot of interesting implications for the game's world lore.
When is The Sift Coming Out?
Mojang has revealed that they have The Sift's planned release date set for 2027!
Although this may sound vague, we have a bit of information based on previous update cycles already. At their latest Minecraft Live, they covered some about their Fall-themed 26.3 update to the game, and revealed what's to come in their winter update which brings icy caves to the world!

These updates are set to carry us through the remainder of 2026, leaving 2027 totally open. Since The Sift is our only bit of revealed content for the future beyond the ice caves, unless something changes, we may be able to expect The Sift on the earlier side of the coming year.
