Rolling Out New DDoS Protection

Posted by Chris | 28 May 2026

With botnets and DDoS attacks becoming more common across the hosting industry, we’re strengthening DDoS protection across the Kinetic Hosting network.

This work started months ago with Cosmic Guard, a game DDoS protection specialist. This allows us to move servers that come under attack behind stronger, game-focused DDoS protection when needed.

Alongside this, we’re now rolling out broader network-level DDoS protection using Cloudflare Magic Transit. This helps us protect more of our network before attacks happen, rather than only reacting after a server is targeted.

What This Improves

This upgrade is designed to improve the resilience of our network by:

  • Filtering attack traffic before it reaches our infrastructure

  • Reducing the chance of nodes being taken offline by large attacks

  • Improving routing stability during network attacks

  • Helping keep servers reachable when attacks are ongoing

  • Giving us stronger protection across more locations

  • Reducing the need for emergency mitigation changes during an incident

For some users, routing may also improve depending on their ISP and location. However, the main goal of this upgrade is stronger protection and better network stability, not a guaranteed latency reduction.

Regions Included

This upgrade will be rolled out across the following regions:

  • 🇺🇸 USA – Texas

  • 🇺🇸 USA – Washington, D.C.

  • 🇺🇸 USA – San Francisco

  • 🇬🇧 UK – London

  • 🇱🇺 Luxembourg

  • 🇳🇱 Netherlands – Amsterdam

  • 🇧🇷 Brazil – São Paulo

  • 🇸🇬 Singapore

Why IPs Will Change

Due to the way this protection works, some nodes will need to move to new protected IP ranges.

This means servers on affected nodes will receive a new IP address when their node is moved behind the upgraded protection.

What Will a New IP Mean?

Your server IP is what you use to connect to your server.

If you use a Kinetic subdomain, such as:

play.kinetichosting.gg

then you do not need to do anything. We’ll update the IP for you, and you can continue connecting using your subdomain as normal.

If you use your own domain, such as:

myamazingserver.com

then you’ll need to update your DNS records to point to the new server IP once the change has been made.

If you connect directly using an IP and port, for example:

127.0.0.1:24454

then you’ll need to grab the new IP from your Kinetic dashboard once your server has been moved.

Once the change is complete, the old IP will stop working.

We’ll Give You Warning

We know that IP changes can be annoying, especially for larger networks, communities, and friend groups.

Because of that, we’ll give customers notice before their node is moved. Updates will be posted through:

  • Our status page

  • Our status account

  • Discord

  • In the panel itself

We aim to give around one week of notice before any affected node is moved to the new protected IP range.

When your node is ready to be moved, you’ll see a popup inside the panel with the details. You can also subscribe to email updates, webhook notifications, and other alerts through our status page to stay informed.

Will This Impact Everyone?

No. Many nodes are already protected or already use stronger mitigation.

For security reasons, we can’t provide a full public list of which nodes are protected and which are not. However, if your server is affected by an IP change, we’ll let you know before it happens.

When Will This Start?

We’re working on rolling this out very soon.

The first locations expected to come online are:

  • 🇬🇧 London

  • 🇸🇬 Singapore

Keep an eye on our status page and Discord for further updates.

Will This Cost Me Anything?

No.

This upgrade is completely free.

No price increases, no hidden costs, and no extra add-ons required. Just stronger protection included with your server.

Will This Affect My Connection?

We’ve already run testing, and this protection is active on some nodes.

So far, we’ve seen no noticeable negative impact on latency or connection quality. In some cases, users may even see improved routing depending on their ISP and location.

The main benefit is that your server is better protected against large-scale network attacks, with traffic being filtered before it reaches our infrastructure.

Summary

This upgrade is part of our ongoing work to make Kinetic Hosting more reliable, more resilient, and better prepared for modern DDoS attacks.

Most users will not need to take any action. If your server does need a new IP, we’ll let you know ahead of time and provide clear instructions before the change happens.

Huge Upgrade to Our DDoS Protection

We all know DDoS attacks are common when it comes to game servers. If you run a public server, it’s usually a case of when, not if, you’re going to get hit. At Kinetic, we’ve always provided DDoS protection to keep your servers online. But as botnets have grown larger and attacks have become more frequent, it’s time for an upgrade.

Changes To Panel Updates

We launched the Kinetic Panel back in 2022, and up until now, most features have been added through major updates. This approach sometimes meant that features were completed but had to wait for other features to be finalized before release. While this was unavoidable in some cases, such as with the significant UI reworks in Panel 3 and Panel 4, it has occasionally left features you could have been using just sitting there.

Panel 6.20 Update Change Log

Due to working on Panel 7 we nearly went all May without a panel and update, we can't have that. So 6.20 is now live on all nodes, with a full rework to the schedules and upgrades to our Rust Auto Wipe feature. They're now more reliable, easy to setup, show in your timezone, and have a lot more options.
