How to Preload GTA 6: File Size, Release Date, & FAQ

Grand Theft Auto VI is coming out soon, and has announced the timing for preloading the game on your consoles so you can jump in and play the moment it unlocks! We've broken down everything you need to know to prepare for Take-Two & Rockstar's biggest ever game release.

GTA 6 Console Release Date

The long-awaited release of GTA VI has a release date set in stone! We're well past the point of development delays, which means you can expect the game to come out on November 19, 2026.

This date applies to players looking to jump into Vice City from their consoles (PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S), while other devices like PC will have their releases set later down the line.

When Will GTA 6 Release on PC?

For PC players, the time everyone will be able to get their hands on Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a bit more unpredictable. Currently, Take-Two is planning the initial release of the game for console platforms exclusively.

The good news is that we know that the developers are hoping to also bring the game to PC players in Q1 of 2027. This means that players on PC will hopefully only be a few months behind the console release of the game. Though you'll want to be wary of spoilers online in the meantime, and might need to hide away until you're able to experience the story for yourself first-hand.

GTA 6 File Size

We also have a confirmed file size for Grand Theft Auto 6 at launch provided by Rockstar Games. You'll want to make sure you free up plenty of space on your consoles, as the starting size of the game is set at 212 GB.

For a lot of consoles, that'll be one game taking up almost 1/4 of the total storage space available. But Take-Two's promises for the game paint a picture of just how much effort has gone into GTA VI's development to justify that size and make it well-worth the space on your drives!

When Does Preloading Unlock For GTA VI?

You don't need to spend hours downloading all 200+ GB of the game on release day before you can play. Preloading will unlock on consoles over a week in advance, allowing you to get ready ahead of time so jumping into the game on November 19th is as simple as clicking play!

You will be able to start your preloads/downloads of the game on November 12th, 2026. The exact timing may vary based on your device, with PS5 players gaining access at midnight in your own local timezone.
