Fortnite has debuted a new One Piece themed event, sending players on a search for a super rare pirate shop token which will allow them to claim over 2 weeks of Fortnite shop items for free! Here's everything you need to know to find the token and start your hunt.
What is a Pirate Token?
In the Fortnite Treasure Hunters update, Epic Games has introduced the Pirate Shop Token. If you find this token while searching chests, you'll be able to claim every item in the item shop, for free, daily for 14 days this year.
You'll also get to do it for another 14 days in 2027, meaning finding this token one time gives you a full month of claiming every shop skin/cosmetic for your account permanently for completely free! It's worth noting that certain shop content like currency packs, though, are of course off limits for this.
How to Find Pirate Shop Tokens in Fortnite
Pirate Shop Tokens can be found in any chest while you play Battle Royale during the Treasure Hunters season. This also counts if you destroy a chest by any means, so you don't need to be too picky about how you open containers.
NOTE: If any player in your party/team finds the token, it's unlocked for all players in the party!
Pirate Shop Token Drop Chance
Although chances have not been officially published by Epic Games, fan speculation places the drop chance of a pirate shop token as 1/700,000 in every chest you open.
To translate, that's a roughly ~0.0014% chance of getting the token any time you open a chest.
The odds are low enough here that you should definitely not go into the game expecting to get a Pirate Shop Token. Most players won't! But the act of chasing for it, no matter how small the chance, can still be a lot of fun.
Easiest Way to Find a Pirate Shop Token
While finding a token is definitely purely chance-based, the best way you can improve your odds is by playing in squads matches rather than just on your own. This is thanks to the fact that if any party member finds the token, it will be granted to all members of the team!
To put those odds into perspective:
If you play in a Squads match (teams of 4 players) where any player can find the token for the whole team, and your squad opened 100 chests per match, you may have a ~50% chance after 5,000 matches.
If you play solo matches, opening 25 chests per match, that same chance may take up to 20,000 matches to reach.
It's worth noting that this is totally dependent on how many chests your squad actually opens in a match.
How Long Will Pirate Shop Tokens Be Available?
Although some other rare rewards and skins that you can find in chests will rotate from week to week during the season, the pirate shop tokens will be around season-round! This means that any time from now until the end of the Fortnite Treasure Hunters mini season will be eligible to find one of these tokens!
The projected end time for the season is December 5th, which will also mark the Fortnite Chapter 8 release date. So you have a bit over a month to hunt down a pirate shop token in-game and test your luck.
How Many Pirate Shop Tokens Are There?
As of now, Epic Games hasn't revealed if there's a set limit of how many tokens can be found in-game.
Since other rare item promotions have been done before, it's safe to say that unless any extra official information comes out that proves otherwise, the amount of tokens that exist aren't limited! The real scarcity is just thanks to the super rare drop rate for the token, rather than there just being a race to claim a limited quantity.
How to Use a Pirate Shop Access Token
If you're one of the lucky few to get pirate shop access, it'll stay available to you to activate any time you want!
It's important to note that this is broken up into two different tokens, though:
Pirate Shop Access (2026): You will want to be certain to activate this token before December 15th, 2026. Once you activate it, your 14 days will begin. Log into Fortnite every day and claim as much of the item shop as you want for free, and keep it all permanently!
Pirate Shop Access (2027): When you get a pirate shop token, you'll also get a second 14-day token that can be used any time during 2027! This token works the same way as the 2026 one, and will need to be activated by December 15th, 2027.
If you have a token, you should see a Plunder the Item Shop button in the bottom right corner of the screen, which you can use to activate your token whenever you want!
