Copper Golems - Everything You Need To Know

Mojang recently brought back the Copper Golem in the new Copper Age update, this mob was originally featured in the 2021 Minecraft Mob Vote, but lost to the Allay, though the vote was very close (only around 8% difference).

How To Make A Copper Golem

In order to make a Copper Golem you need to place down a Copper Block with a Carved Pumpkin or Jack-o'-lantern on top, this pumpkin variant needs to be placed last in order for the Copper Golem to spawn.

This will spawn a Copper Golem with a Copper Chest.

What Does The Copper Golem Do?

The Copper Golem works as a living sorting system, any items that you put into the Copper Chest will automatically be sorted into nearby chests with the same items.

Just like all other copper items, the Copper Golem can oxidize, this is just as slow of a process as normal copper oxidization, but with the Copper Golem, once it fully oxidizes, it stops working. The Copper Golem will go completely still. This golem can be positioned in multiple ways and will hold an item that you give it, making it a form of Item Display. This oxidization can be cleared using an Axe and the Copper Golem can be waxed to prevent this.

Chest Interaction

If a Copper Golem isn’t currently holding an item, it’ll visit the nearest Copper Chest and attempt to take out up to 16 of the first item if finds, it will take 3 seconds to examine each copper chest if visits. If the Copper Chest is empty, the Golem will move along to the next chest it can find; It will remember up to 10 chests. If these 10 chests are all empty, the Golem will forget all chests it visited and will continue searching.

Iron Golem Interaction

Iron Golems will occasionally hold out a poppy, the Copper Golem can take and place on top of it’s lightning rod (On the top of it’s head). Using shears on the Copper Golem will drop the poppy, it will also drop if a Copper Golem becomes a Copper Golem Statue.

Though this video isn’t entirely Mumbo Jumbo’s own work, it is him who has mostly presented and polished this idea, this works by forcing many Copper Golems into one block, meaning that the 3 second period for the Golem to check a chest is mitigated by pure scale.

There is a very strong chance that Copper Golems are now able to become the fastest Item Sorters the game has ever seen.

Though the Copper Age Update was rather small, I think these little guys are going to make a big impact in the future of every Minecraft world!
