Minecraft 1.21.9 - The Copper Age, Available Now!

Finally, Copper is going to be useful! The new Minecraft update, the “Copper Age” update, is out now, adding many new uses for Copper and even a new block type that’ll improve building considerably!

New Features

Copper Golem

The copper golem is a rejected mob from the 2021 Mob Vote; it has finally been added with full functionality. The copper golem can be spawned by placing a carved pumpkin on top of a copper block. The copper golem will spawn with a copper chest, which can be used to automatically sort items into other nearby chests.

Copper Golems are now the most efficient automatic storage system in Minecraft. Creators like Mumbo Jumbo have made incredibly fast and efficient storage systems utilising this new mob.

Shelves

Shelves are functionally vertical slabs (Finally!), but they can be used to store items, essentially giving you hotswappable hotbars! Each shelf can be used to store up to 3 items. Combining 3 in a row will give you the full 9 hotbar slots.

Shelves can be crafted using 6 stripped logs of the chosen variant.

Copper Armour & Tools

Copper Armour and Tools are early-game items, used to bridge the gap between Leather and Iron Armour and a replacement for Stone tools (Due to their higher durability and enchantability). The full armour set provides 10 Armour Points or half of the armour bar. The Copper Tools have the same breaking power as Stone (meaning it is able to break the same ores as Stone Tools), whilst having a faster break speed.

Copper Block Variants

The Copper Age update introduces 4 new block variants for Copper, these being the Copper Torch, the Copper Lantern, the Copper Bars and the Copper Chains.

Copper Torches

A green variant of the Torch, crafted from a copper nugget, coal and a stick.

Its function is identical to the Torch, the only difference being aesthetic.

Copper Lanterns

Functionally identical to the Lantern besides the aesthetic change.

Crafted with 8 Copper Nuggets and a Copper Torch.

Copper Chains

Functions like the existing chain, which has now been renamed to “Iron Chain”

Crafted with 2 copper nuggets and a copper ingot.

Copper Bars

The same as the current Iron Bars, besides the aesthetic difference.

Crafted with 6 copper ingots, replacing the old copper trapdoor recipe.
